A little tricky

A couple weeks ago we added another bike to Oliver's fleet - a bike with training wheels, or as Oliver calls it, his chain bike. The name chain bike distinguishes it from his helmet bike (his balance bike), from his peddle bike (his tricycle), and the one that attaches to the back of either Davis' or my bike - seriously, given the bikes, strollers, and other playthings we have given the garage over to Oliver - a two car garage and we can't get either car in.

The first couple goes at the chain bike were a little rocky - Oliver was so enamored by the peddles and training wheels that he would watch his feet peddling and the training wheels spinning and not watch where he was going - lots of slow speed crashes. Once the idea of peddles and training wheels was not so novel, he began to fly. Mind you, at this point he had not yet mastered the braking. At one point he was flying down the street, crashed into the curb, flew over the handle bars and skidded across the sidewalk. Henni and I run over, and a man painting our neighbor's house calls over to see if things are ok - he's got his cell phone out ready, I think, to call 911. Oliver picks himself up, says, "Minus! Well, that was a little tricky." He then hops back on the bike and peddles off. While I love his enthusiasm and spirit, a little fear might not be a bad thing.

Here's a little video my sister took -
